Thanks to Biogasmax to make emerge a technical status for the bio-methane in France
In France, fuel distribution and use require the government agreement. LMCU (Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine), Biogasmax project coordinator, received a letter from MEDD (Ministère de l’Ecologie et du Développement Durable, french environmental Ministry) that ranks bio-methane as natural gas.
Taking advantage of the Grenelle de l’Environnement, a large public consultation about environmental issues that took place in France on October 2007, LMCU (Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine) submitted the matter of the taxation status of the bio-methane for vehicule to the MEDD (Ministère de l’Ecologie et du Développement Durable.
The MEDD answer issued on the 16th july 2007 does not leave any doubt : bio-methane is liable to the TICGN (a french tax related to the natural gas consumption) because it is ranked as natural gas for vehicule. That is a great progress because technical status of the bio-methane for vehicule was not yet clearly defined in France. Nevertheless, those encouraging steps are only the first stage of a tax-free status for biomethane as 100% renewable fuel.
