The Region of Zielona Góra
The City of Zielona Góra, one of the most important cities in Poland, has developed and implemented a strategy for waste management, including the retrieval and use of biogas.
The city is represented by the Institute of Environmental Engineering of the University of Zielona Góra. A plant and facilities for biomass-based energy production are to be developed on 400 hectares of land belonging to the University, where biogas production will be demonstrated as part of a larger educational program.
The Region of Torun
Torun is the leading city in waste gas recuperation and use in this region of Europe. Biogas production from the city’s sewage and landfill waste amounts to approximately 5 Mio m3 a year. Electricity and heat are produced from biogas via co-generation technology.
The Biogaz Inwestor installation on the municipal landfill of Torun uses modern technology rarely seen in other European sites. Over 3 Mio m3 of biogas is produced annually from the municipal landfill waste and is used to generate approximately 5.500 MWh of electrical power and 25.000 GJ of thermal energy, which is transmitted to the municipal thermal grid.
